I'm just watching this for the first time and have been a part of these conversations as a NCPC chair. If people, new to these communities and long-time, come out and create safe places and spaces to actually engage, see and meet people that don't look, live or even resemble who are considerably different, that is a start.

This is a VERY important piece and I appreciate the publishing of it.

As a former Ethics Commissioner for the City of Oakland, I agree that we need to explore how our elected are doing and always have alternatives to our needs.

Here in the Portland metro area, it's not a job issue, it's a rent issue. The rent is just too high.

To the person who said, why not move to a place that is less expensive instead of the Bay Area. My response: Have you noticed that this area is not the only area where homelessness in large numbers exist in the U.S.?

Re: In Berkeley, Barclay's Pub Closes Again

Janelle, thanks for writing the article, I just want to provide a little more clarification: I did not say that we wished we hadn't moved there, I just wrote that in retrospect we can see why Andrew and Chris wanted to take over the old Barclay's location for the Golden Squirrel, and that there may have been a more accessible location than the new one on Shattuck for the Regulars that frequented the old Barclay's. Location is obviously very important, and Gene really thought it would be good for business and close enough to the old location to gain some of the customers back, but in the end Barclay's just couldn't make the transition.

It's outrageous what housing cost here in the SF Bay Area. I own a 2,000 SF townhouse in Stone Mountain, GA. and I only pay $1170.00 mortgage.

Thank you for providing insight into the process Len.

I work for a publicly traded company and the auditors are a very important part of our financial compliance.

I'd probably feel differently if 2 of the 3 teams weren't leaving.

Lol@another lawsuit
For one the we stand with Oakland dont even have a plaintiff on board, the city of Cleveland was on board to sue the Browns back in 1996. And the whole group is fighting against each other (zennie Abraham and godfather griz jones dont get along anymore because zennie said the we stand with Oakland is dormant)
Furthermore when they announce the lawsuit there was only no more than 20 people lol

I support SB827, but this article is hilariously inaccurate. Rockridge is the ONLY residential BART stop in Oakland that is primarily white.

Winter is coming for local city government transparency. Especially in Oakland which is too big a city for word of mouth and online postings to compensate for a lack of professional journalist coverage.

The East Bay Times coverage of Oakland City Hall and School District had already shriveled up over the past 15 years to the point where there would only be one or two articles a week that didn't just repeat City Hall press releases.

The Chronicle has one good article every two weeks, maybe.

That puts even more of the burden of local coverage on the East Bay Express.

Chris Treadway is one of the Bay Area's most professional, talented and hardworking journalists, not to mention one of the nicest guys you might ever meet. He and Tom Lochner, his equally awesome fellow West County reporter, have done a stellar job of covering Richmond and nearby communities.
