It's 2018 and this is still happening in Southern California.

I am so utterly sickened by this article and how you jumped on Saez's bandwagon to "take down HNU." You do not describe the HNU I know.

The time for the book event at Geoffreys Inner Circle on February 21st has been expanded to begin at 5 pm rather than 6 pm.

I agree with Jane. I am in the HNU graduate nursing program and am continually awed by the program's dedicated and hard-working instructors who truly care for their students.

You can see the Declarations of former HNU faculty and students from HNU's case against Saez in Alameda Superior Court:

"The teacher used the same test from the year before, and from the year before that. So everyone had all the tests already, and all of the homework Everyone passed all their classes, I think my high school was harder than HNU."

With the city council's poor record on contract negotiation it would be prudent to share the contract with the full city council to ensure that all members are comfortable with the terms of the contract before it is put forward.

I know this article is 2 years old but you completely missed out on Tins Bistro - great Cantonese dim sum, Aqua Farina for Italian, Tomodochi for sushi, ghazni for Afghan, chai Thai noodles to name a few. Theres also some great pubs and breweries and an amazing High scores retro arcade downtown.

How many consultants and activists on violence prevention has the city already heard from over the years? More than enough, I think.

It's a simple economic trend that happens everywhere. People with access to money buy property in desirable locations.

This $300K is worthy of our time and money. It is a better direction towards justice than punishment.

Where is it written that you have to live where you work? That's never been the case and it shouldn't be.

Since the failure of De La Fuente to win the mayor's office, Oakland's Latinos have had a disproportionately small impact on the city's politics and its black voters have had a disproportionately large one. Maybe now things will balance out.

Perhaps your readers haven't read about Rasmea Odeh. She is a member of a terrorist group, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, and a convicted murderer who in 1969 killed two students, Edward Joffe and Leon Kanner, when a bomb she planted exploded in a Jerusalem supermarket.

Oh, great article! Quick correction, though: It's the Family Violence Law Center, not the Family Violence and Justice Center, and it looks like you didn't include their contact information.

Service workers, whom we depend on to work our restaurants and cafes; custodians for businesses, clerks for grocery and retail stores, etc etc cannot afford to live here...so then what happens? Are people prepared to lose these businesses because they cannot keep workers on $13/hour?

Yes, Mr. Blafard, if you can't afford to live here you should move. No one is entitled to live where they work.
